GALLERY 59: TRUMPETER SWANS
There is a nuclear power station located just north of the Minneapolis area. Water used to cool the reactors is introduced back into the Mississippi River here. The warm water entering the river prevents ice from forming on the river a mile or more south of the power plant. Trumpeter Swans have been making a come back in Minnesota. Many choose to over winter on this stretch of the river, providing photo opportunities for swan images on the water as well as in flight.
